Spring Cleaning for a Great Cause!

boxes in basementMr. Robinson has been hard at work in the library basement culling and packing boxes of donated, used books to make room for the  expansion of the Historical Society of Riverton’s archives.

On April 9th and 10th, members of the HSR moved nearly 100 boxes out of the basement and assisted workers from the Salvation Army in loading their truck.

ArchivesOnce the basement is rearranged, the Friends of Riverton Free Library will continue to offer used books for sale.  Several local professional archivists are volunteering their time and expertise to advise on a plan for the complete renovation of the HSR archives, which will include more storage and public display space.

Terrific cooperation between two of Riverton’s stellar public service organizations!

Cocktail Social

Mardi Gras maskAs it is said in New Orleans, “Laissez les bon temps roulez!”  The theme for this year’s Social is Mardi Gras, so let the good times roll!

Come and join us on Saturday, April 25th from 6:30 until 10:30 PM, at Sacred Heart Gym for our annual fundraising event.

The theme this year is Mardi Gras! Bring your masks, beads, and hors d’oeuvre or dessert to share.  Attendees can participate in the tombola auction to try to win a donated prize. Open bar sponsored by the RFL Association.

Tickets can be purchased $30 in advance at the library, or $40 at the door. Your participation will allow us to continue our mission to support the library and its services.

So, come celebrate with your neighbors and bring your dancing shoes!  Once again, local band, The Friends, will entertain us with their great music.  A good time will be had by all!

Nancy Fort has found another great book to recommend!  Review #6.

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt is an unconventional coming of age story set in the 1980’s. I realize I have recommended young adult, ’80’s fiction recently but in my defense, I was not aware of those details when I selected the book. I found the book while browsing the BCLS catalog for electronic books currently available for download. I read the brief summary that it was the story of a young girl who had a special relationship with her uncle who died and left her to contemplate her grief and relationships with the rest of her family. I won’t give the rest away but it is a wonderful story about love and family.
