Friends and Family CPR Course

This training will take place on Monday, March 6th from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and registration is required. You can register for this event here.

Almost 80% of sudden cardiac arrests happen in the home. 92% of victims don’t survive, often because people around them don’t act and begin CPR. You can help change this statistic by learning the simple skills of CPR. These skills are taught by American Heart Association faculty instructors, using the AHA’s research-proven, practice-while-watching technique. This allows participants to have the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.

This course covers the lifesaving skills of:

  • Adult Hands-Only™ CPR
  • Child CPR with breaths
  • Adult and child AED (automated external defibrillator) use
  • Infant CPR
  • Relief of choking in an adult, child, or infant.

Registration is required. This event will take place in person at the Riverton Library. There is no age requirement, but it is recommended participants are at least 9 years old. (CPR is based more on body strength than age.)

Please note, this training is not appropriate for anyone looking for a certification. This course is intended for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. It is ideal for schools and students, parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life.

Riverton Readers Book Discussion

The Book Club will meet on February 16th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

This casual book discussion is open to all. Stop by Riverton Library any time before the event to check out your copy of the book. This month’s selection is Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng.

“In a dystopian near future, art battles back against fear. Ng’s first two novels—her arresting debut, Everything I Never Told You (2014), and devastating follow-up, Little Fires Everywhere (2017)—provided an insightful, empathetic perspective on America as it is. Her equally sensitive, nuanced, and vividly drawn latest effort, set in a dystopian near future in which Asian Americans are regarded with scorn and mistrust by the government and their neighbors, offers a frightening portrait of what it might become…Taut and terrifying, Ng’s cautionary tale transports us into an American tomorrow that is all too easy to imagine—and persuasively posits that the antidotes to fear and suspicion are empathy and love.”

Riverton Readers Book Club: Olive Kittridge

This book discussion will be help on Thursday, December 15th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

This casual book discussion is open to all. Stop by Riverton Library any time before the event to check out your copy of the book. This month’s selection is Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout.

“At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Henry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition–its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires.”
