About Emily Terifay

Hi! My name is Emily Terifay. I am a current student at Clarion University and studying to become a Librarian. I love books and reading, my favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi. I also have a mini library at my house and I add more books to it at least every two months. I also have two guinea pigs, Timothy and Lemon who are adorable, if not a little annoying at times.

Spring into Shakespeare: Hamlet 2000

Join us this spring as we celebrate The Bard with movies you might (or might not have!) known were Shakespeare adaptations.

This week’s selection is Hamlet (2000) – Set in contemporary New York City, Hamlet (Ethan Hawke) is a film student and Claudius (Kyle MacLachlan) is the CEO of the Denmark Corporation, having taken over the firm by killing his brother–Hamlet’s father. This adaptation keeps the Shakespearean dialogue but presents a modern setting, with technology such as video cameras and surveillance bugs.

This movie is based on Hamlet. If you’d like to read the play before watching, stop by Riverton Library to check out a copy. If not, just drop in to enjoy the movie.

This movie showing will take place on Tuesday, May 6th from 6 to 8 pm!

Audience: Adult
Type: Film & TV

Riverton Readers Book Discussion: The Ministry of Time

Riverton Readers Book Discussion: The Ministry of Time

This casual book discussion is open to all. Stop by Riverton Library any time before the event to check out your copy of the book. This month’s selection is The Ministry of Time by Kalaine Bradley.

In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time. She is tasked with working as a “bridge”: living with, assisting, and monitoring the expat known as “1847” or Commander Graham Gore. As far as history is concerned, Commander Gore died on Sir John Franklin’s doomed 1845 expedition to the Arctic, so he’s a little disoriented to be living with an unmarried woman who regularly shows her calves, surrounded by outlandish concepts such as “washing machines,” “Spotify,” and “the collapse of the British Empire.” But with an appetite for discovery, a seven-a-day cigarette habit, and the support of a charming and chaotic cast of fellow expats, he soon adjusts.

This book group will meet on Monday, May 5th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm!

Audience: Adult
