Efforts to Ban Books Faced an Unprecedented Increase

An NPR article by Miranda Mazariegos and Meghan Collins Sullivan titled “Efforts to ban books jumped an ‘unprecedented’ four-fold in 2021, ALA report says“. The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom counted 729 book challenges last year when they usually only see 500 book challenges. The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom also states that 90% of book challenges go unreported and they cannot keep track of ‘silent censorship’.
