Tillicum Volumes Wanted

The Library’s reference collection includes the Palmyra High School yearbook, The Tillicum, for the years 1930 through 2011. We are missing 14 issues, and would appreciate donations to fill in the gaps. The Tillicums we need are 1942, 1943, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1959, 1964, 1981, 1982, 1983, , 1984, 1987, 1997, and 2003.  Yearbooks prior to 1930 would also be welcome.

New Acquisition!

The Friends of the Library have purchased a ceiling-mounted digital projector and screen, located in our adult reading room. The new equipment makes possible a more exciting theatrical experience during Movie Nights and Wii programs, accommodates Blu-Ray and HD movies, and allows for PowerPoint and other computer-based presentations. We also hope to make it available to community organizations for their own programs, and would welcome suggestions from the public (anyone want to sponsor a festival of movies produced by local students?).

Book Discussion Groups

Consider joining our Great Books Group! We have been meeting on alternate Thursdays at 8 p.m. for more than 25 years. Short stories are the usual focus, with occasional essays and poems. The short story form makes it easy to complete the readings during the two-week interval between meetings, while providing a concentrated literary experience that is both enjoyable for its own sake and rich in possibilities for interpretation. The interaction of different points of view among participants often brings out meaning that would not otherwise have appeared, not to mention a lot of good conversation. New members are always welcome.

The Monthly Book Discussion Group, also know as the Not So Great Books Group, meets at 7:30 on the first Friday of every month to talk about a novel and whatever else comes up. We usually finish up at about 9.

We’d love to see some new faces, so please join us!
